Located in Monroe, Wisconsin, the Green County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in 1891 in the Richardson Romanesque style, using red brick and limestone. After over 130 years of use, the building’s roof and gutter system needed repair and restoration.
During the project, the construction team from Renaissance Roofing integrated masonry and architectural sheet metal components and rebuilt the upper half of the clock tower. They also carefully replicated existing sheet metal cornices, finials, modillions, dentils, and spires, recreating original corrugated copper materials in their in-house copper studio. The clock tower renovations presented a particular challenge, requiring the team to update the design, installation, blocking, and attachment techniques to meet updated industry-standard guidelines, such as those provided by the Copper in Architecture Handbook.
